Eritrean farmer named one of FAO’s 100 Women Heroes
Rozina Mebrahtu was chosen from 600 women nominated by 131 countries.

Eritrea’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced that the farmer Rozina Mebrahtu has been named one of the FAO 100 Women Heroes, an award presented on World Food Day.
She was selected from 600 exemplary women nominated by 131 countries.
According to information from the Food and Agriculture Organization, one of the main reasons for the award was her success in turning a saline, uncultivable hillside into fertile farmland through sustained effort.
Rozina farms at Ruba Mesalih in the Tokombia administrative area. She is married and the mother of seven children.
To turn this place into good land, she said, my children and I carried sand, soil and manure from elsewhere and worked without rest for ten years. In 2022 she was also recognised nationally as an outstanding potato producer.
