Eritrea rejects Ethiopia’s sea access claim as political betrayal
Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel says Eritrea has never been owned by Ethiopia.

Eritrea’s information minister, Yemane Gebremeskel, has responded to a programme broadcast in Arabic by Fana Broadcasting Corporate on 19 October.
He said Ethiopia has never in its history owned ports or a stretch of Red Sea coast, and that apart from its unlawful presence during the federation and annexation years there is nothing for it to recover.
Conquest and rule by force confer neither historical nor legal title on the occupying party, the minister said, urging those who repeat the claim to consult international law.
He recalled that in the 1940s, when Eritreans were denied the right to end colonial rule, they waged a long and bitter struggle at great cost in lives.
Denying and disparaging Eritrea’s independence, he added, is a further breach of the law and an act of political contempt of the highest order.
