Addis Ababa acts on unfair price and rent rises
Mayor Adanech Abebe says a 500 million birr revolving fund has been allocated and large market centres are being opened.

Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abebe said various measures are being taken to control unjustified increases in the price of basic foods and in house rents.
Following talks with stakeholders, she said the prices of meat, cooking oil, bread, bottled water and house rents had been reviewed.
Large market centres connecting producers directly with consumers are being opened at the city’s entry points, and a revolving fund estimated at 500 million birr has been allocated to raise output and quality.
She warned that enforcement against traders who break market rules with unjustified price increases will be strengthened.
