Eritrea severs all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia and accuses it of invading Eritrean ports and coastal areas

The ministry said Ethiopia had pursued three years of "incessant hostility" and that Eritrea had no option but to reciprocate in kind.

Ethiopia closes its embassy in Asmara and orders 10 Eritrean diplomats out within 48 hours

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the closure was a response to Eritrea's "direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence". Eritrea has not responded.

BBC says at least 52 civilians were killed in three days of fighting around Alamata, with more than 700 wounded

A doctor at Alamata General Hospital told the broadcaster twelve people were killed in a single market strike; the BBC says federal forces control the town.

Ethiopia closes its embassy in Asmara and orders ten Eritrean diplomats out within 48 hours

Ethiopia's foreign ministry says the decision follows "direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence by Eritrea"; Eritrea has not responded.

Bloomberg says Ethiopia plans to pull more than 3,000 troops out of Somalia; Somalia says it was given no notice

Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, reported the withdrawal could begin within days or weeks. A Somali defence ministry official said Ethiopia had given no notice of any pullout.

The agency gave no details of damage or casualties. Ethiopia's security service banned drone flights over Addis Ababa indefinitely on 30 September.
