Ethiopian forces enter Aksum, ACLED says, with Tigray Peace Force fighters alongside them
Rival Tigrayan fighters remained in the mountains around the city, the monitoring group said; the report was carried by Al Jazeera.

Ethiopian forces and allied fighters say they have expanded the areas they control across Tigray and have entered the historic city of Aksum. The report was carried by Al Jazeera on 15 October 2026.
The conflict monitoring group ACLED documented federal forces and Tigray Peace Force fighters entering Aksum, while rival Tigrayan fighters remained in the mountains surrounding the city.
ACLED also reported Eritrean troops withdrawing across the border through Zalambessa. AFP said there was no active fighting in Zalambessa and that the town had been without power and water for a week.
The Tigray Peace Force's claim that Eritrean troops have suffered heavy losses has not been independently verified. Eritrea's information minister, Yemane Gebremeskel, rejected the claim as false.
