Al Jazeera reported on 27 September that fighting has continued around Sama, Sekota and Raya Alamata, with government forces reportedly closing in on the town of Alamata. The report did not say federal forces had entered or captured the town, and the positions of the two sides could not be independently verified.

Euronews reported on 27 September that Ethiopia's Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, accused Egypt and Sudan of backing a new armed alliance seeking to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in an interview with the army's own media outlet. He said the groups could not succeed without being pushed, supported and supplied from abroad, and that Eritrea acts as a link between foreign backers and armed groups inside Ethiopia. Euronews said he gave no evidence for the accusation, that Egypt and Sudan had not responded publicly by Sunday morning, and that Eritrea has repeatedly denied supporting members of the alliance.

Al Jazeera reported on 27 September that Ethiopia's Chief of General Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, said the army is responding to provocation on the Tigray front with wisdom and restraint, in his first public comments on the fighting. He accused Eritrea of funding and supporting armed groups to weaken Ethiopia. The army command indicated it prefers strategic calm to a large-scale military confrontation, saying support for the Tigray front is declining and its leadership divided. The army has said it killed 272 Tigrayan fighters and wounded 260 in North Wollo.
